In its recent financial report for the fourth quarter and entirety of 2024, The Embracer Group reported that Dead Island 2 had surpassed sales of three million copies. This was released on April 21st, 2023, and had achieved sales of over two million by May following its launch. The path to its release was rocky, characterized by numerous delays, a change in developers, and a significant overhaul in its production approach.
Additionally, since its debut on Game Pass on February 22nd, Dead Island 2 has attracted more than seven million players, aligning perfectly with Dambuster Studios' earlier predictions. Players can currently enjoy the game's second paid expansion, SoLA, and the developers have promised to introduce more updates in the upcoming months.
These impending updates might include Neighborhood Watch, a speculated survival mode featuring progressively challenging waves of adversaries, and New Game Plus, a feature long desired by the playing community since the game’s initial release. It is still uncertain whether there will be further paid content.
Dead Island 2 is available across several platforms, including Xbox Series X/S, Xbox Noe, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and PC.
